DHW flow profile.png
Why guess when you can know?

The standard cost for a new condensing gas fired water heater: ~$25,000 per 1,000-MBH

The standard cost for a new commercial heat pump water heater: ~$80,000 per 1,000-MBH

We only need to save 120-MBH of capacity from a condensing gas fired water heater plant, or 38-MBH of capacity from a heat pump plant to payback this service.

It is not uncommon to replace an existing 2,000-MBH plant with 500-MBH of equipment, resulting in $40k (gas) up to $120k (Heat Pump) in equipment savings.

In our experience, DHW plants are a magnitude of order larger than the peak load requires; somewhere in a range of 3x and up to 10x. Replacing equipment in-kind can be a costly mistake.

New York City's Local Law 97 will impose steep fines for fossil fuel based heating. These fees, which take effect in 2024 are designed to encourage "electrification" of HVAC and plumbing plants.

The size of the DHW plant will determine the cost of the electrified equipment and the costs of the electrical upgrades.
